Cub Scout Camping Information

What is Cub Scout Camping

Cub Scout Camping is a great way to introduce boys who are in the first through fifth grades to the fun and excitement that Scout Camping can give them. Camping is the highlight of the year for most Cub Scouts, and Camp Tuscarora offers three types of camping adventures for the boys in the Baden Powell Council. Each of the programs listed below will ensure that your Cub Scout enjoys and remembers the fun times and adventures at Camp Tuscarora. Cub Scout Resident Camp

This summer our theme will be Endangered Species. This will include mammals and sea creatures and promises to be both educational and fun!! The program for each day is broken down into different activity times. Each day consists of five of the following activity areas: Nature, Scoutcraft, Sports, Swimming, Boating, Fishing, Archery, Trailblazers, Bouldering and Handicraft. In the nature area, the Scouts are able to learn about nature and explore the wilderness that surrounds them. In Scoutcraft, Cubs and Webelos can learn valuable camping skills such as that all-important square knot and first aid. In sports, the boys will play some field games. In handicraft, the Scouts will work with tools and their imaginations to create projects that they can keep and use. Trailblazers will introduce the Scouts to that all important campfire construction, and our waterfront staff is great with both swimmers and those first time rowers. Bouldering was new in 2005, and we've continued this great program. Cub Scout Resident Camp provides boys with the opportunity to earn several Cub Scout Sports and Academic Belt Loops. Those interested will have the chance to earn some of the following: archery, swimming, fishing, geology, wildlife conservation, map and compass, or astronomy. Scouts who choose these activities will be given a checklist to bring back to their den leader indicating which requirements we did at camp. More importantly, it provides an opportunity for a boy to spend some quality time, in a safe and organized out-of-doors program with their parents and/or Cub Scout leaders at Camp Tuscarora. It is an opportunity to live in nature, develop self-confidence, build patriotism, and to just have fun. The fun doesn't stop after dinner. The evening will always contain a memorable program for the campers, including such things as Hike to the Bear Caves, a Night Hike, and even a scavenger hunt.

Tuscarora Cub Scout Family Weekend

This year at Camp Tuscarora our Cub scout Family Weekend will be on May 17-18, 2008. This weekend will be a great way to introduce the Cubs to a fun weekend of camping and the beauty of Tuscarora. We are looking forward to having you and your family at Camp Tuscarora this year and invite you all to spend the night in one of our campsites. We have many activities planned including archery, fishing, craft projects, games etc. Feel free to bring your own fishing poles (we have extras for anyone wanting one), we will provide bait, and hopefully Summit Lake will provide fish. Remember, although some activities are held inside, you must make sure you are dressed for the weather as this weekend is held rain or shine. We have a campfire planned for Saturday night, so plan to stay a bit even if staying overnight is not in your plans.
